Drew Carey bids $US100,000 for @Drew

Your IT - Home IT

Yesterday Drew Carey offered to donate $US100,000 in support of cancer research to acquire @Drew.

In May 2009, Twitter user Drew Olanoff, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  Not being one to take things lying down, Olanoff started a very positive process to address his cancer by creating a website and Twitter hashtag called #BlameDrewsCancer where anyone in the world is invited to blame anything at all on Orloff's cancer.

Observing the run of messages for just a few moments yielded some amusing accusations.  Drew's cancer is being blamed for "the sucky job market," the fact that someone's dog wouldn't take it's pills, making the owner late for work, for "not being able to buy my #blame shirt. Still out of my size on the website" and "for being an awful gift-giver & not having anything for my husband for our 5th anniversary tomorrow."

Interestingly, as this was being written, a new hashtag appeared, allowing us to #BlameEthansCancer.  It seems that Ethan Zohn, winner of Survivor Africa, also has cancer and is approaching it in the same positive manner.

Late last week, Olanoff, a very early Twitter adopter, announced he was inviting bids of $US10,000 or more for his @Drew account.  Around noon on Sunday (Australian time) Drew Carey tweeted "I bid $25k for the @Drew Twitter handle. #drewbid."  Ten minutes later he upped the ante "@Drew I'll up my donation to LIVESTRONG to $100k if I get 100k followers by Nov 9th. I have just over 13k followers now."

Within minutes the retweeting took off.  Currently, Carey has a little under 24,000 followers (I'm now one of them) - I suggest you also help the cause and follow @DrewFromTV.

You should also tweet your problems with the hashtag #BlameEthansCancer – Olanoff is hoping to find sponsors for each message to donate money to Lance Armstrong's Livestrong Foundation.  Better still, donate or sponsor Livestrong yourself.
