Optus goes live with 3G voice and content

Your IT - Home IT

Optus has announced availability of its 3G voice and content services from all its retail and distribution outlets in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Optus 'launched' 3G earlier this month. However, at that time it had only data services available. Six Optus World stores in Sydney and Melbourne have been equipped with 3G kiosks that provide customers with information and demonstration.

Optus customers will have access to new interface called 'MyZooNow' billed as "an active, intuitive portal where information is continually updated and pushed to mobile handsets. A key element of MyZooNow is a 'presence' function called 'MyStatus'.

According to Optus, "it enables customers to show friends and colleagues their preferred contact status via one of two modes: work and play - ensuring people can stay in touch but not be interrupted at inappropriate times."

The service launches with five handsets: Nokia N70; Nokia 6680; Samsung Z500; Sony Ericsson K600, and Samsung Z140.
