BenQ's LCD expertise also shows up in digital cameras - globally, almost one camera in four incorporates a BenQ panel. (Incidentally, BenQ makes the iPhone's touch screen too.) The latest models in the company's own camera range are aimed squarely at first-time buyers, emphasising ease of use and "very user-friendly features" such as face, smile and blink detection, along with face enhancement.
And a good-quality screen means "you enjoy the moment" when you first look at a shot, Chang said.
"Fun is going to be a key feature of our camera offerings."
At the other extreme of image size, BenQ has a wide range of video projectors. "We are in every market," said Chang, ranging from entry-level home models right through to super-bright projectors for auditorium use.
BenQ is number two in the DLP (digital light processing - TI's projection technology) market, and number three overall, he said. But the company is doing better in Asia Pacific (including Japan), where it runs second behind Epson.
New additions to the range include stereoscopic 3D-capable models that Chang says will find applications in education as well as entertainment.
There are also new "super short-throw" models that can produce an 81in image from a distance of just 1m.
