On the subject of storage, Dell also announced the PowerVault NX300 storage appliance that makes it easy to configure and use new storage on the fly. Boyd described the new NAS unit as "bringing simplicity into our storage portfolio."
The NX300, based on Windows Storage Server 2008, can scale up to 4TB of storage and includes deduplication technology to make the best use of the available space.
The third leg of Dell's SME announcements was a range of four [corrected 10/09/09] uninterruptible power supply products (UPSes).
Boyd told iTWire that Dell had noticed there was a gap between low-end and high-end models from other vendors. Dell's range spans deskside units to the data centre, and providing a range of sizes means customers won't need to purchase a model that exceeds their requirements.
Features of the UPSes include tool-less setup and configuration, and the range includes the first UPSes to run at 95% efficiency or better.
In related news, Dell has extended its relationship with data centre networking specialist Brocade.
Most Brocade products - including Fibre Channel switches, Fibre Channel over Ethernet, and IP switches - will be available under the Dell label, and in future the companies will co-design products.
