The longtime rumors of an "iTablet" have been given new life by recent reports of activity among Apple's Chinese manufacturers.

The exact nature of any new Apple subnotebook has been the subject of much speculation -- will it be more like a netbook, or more like an overgrown iPod Touch?

The latter seems more likely, and the use of flash memory could further differentiate the new device from most of the netbooks currently on the market.

The Toshiba deal could also make it more difficult for any potential rivals to secure enough flash memory at an attractive price, as the 2005 deal did.
