Yahoo adds external content to new front page design

Your IT - Home IT

Yahoo has begun rolling out a new, customizable front page that gives visitors the chance to connect with external sites such as Facebook and eBay without leaving the Yahoo page.

The new page design -- which is not the same as a user's customizable My Yahoo front page -- was expected to make its debut this fall.

Getting to the page so far requires clicking a button on the existing home page or going directly to m.www.yahoo.com/ .

Once there, the user sees a list of "My Favorites" applications down the left side of the browser window.

By default, the list contains social sites like Facebook and MySpace (though not Twitter), sports and finance news sources, weather and TV, and so on.

Hovering the mouse over one of the items brings up a box with the latest friends' updates, news stories, or watched eBay auctions.

The user can delete items from the list, add more of the 65 prepackaged applications, or create their own, as well as rearrange the order the items appear in.
