Ultra-thin laptops show up at Computex

Your IT - Home IT

The already-mentioned Pentium SU2700 made its debut at the show -- it runs at 1.3 GHz. It joins the 1.2GHz Celeron 723, 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo SU3500, and 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo SU9600 in the CULV line.

Intel also introduced its Mobile GS40 Express chipset that enables the CULV laptops to work with Windows Vista Premium and to play back HD content.

Besides the action at the thin-and-light end, Intel also announced updates to its full-size mobile processors.

The company introduced three new chips that offer more capability without requiring more power. The 2.83GHz P9700 draws 25W of power, while the 2.66GHz P8800 draws the same amount of power and has 3 MB of Level 2 cache.

The third, the Core 2 Duo T9900, is Intel's first mobile processor to run at more than 3 GHz: it's rated at 3.06 GHz.
