Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Disregarding Apple's opinion that current netbooks are "junky" and the company's willingness to sue Mac clone makers, a Russian website is offering a MiniBook with Mac OS X running on an Asus Eee PC.
The "hackintosh" is based on a stock Asus Eee PC 1000HE, sporting a 1.6 GHz Atom processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 160GB hard disk, and a 10.2-inch display.
The site (translated version) has already been selling a 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo-based tower Mac, claimed to be equivalent to an iMac. The site lists the tower for 23,800 Euros but must mean rubles--it claims the similar iMac is 110,000 rubles, which is only about 2,500 Euros.
The MiniBook (translated version) lists for 19,200 Euros (again, must mean rubles), and of course there is no equivalent Mac at any price.
What's not clear is if the machines come with Mac OS X preinstalled, or if the buyer must install from their own copy. Some kind of patch is required to get OS X running on non-Apple hardware, and it's also unclear whether RussianMac provides that patch and instructions or if the buyer is responsible for that as well.
Whoever installs OS X is violating Apple's OS X license agreement. Apple has shown a willingness to sue American companies who sell Mac clones with OS X preinstalled, but taking that fight to Russia, much less to individual buyers, seems far less likely.
Judging from the shipping information, the units are only available in Russia, for delivery within that country.
