Telstra unifies communications for consumers

Your IT - Home IT

Telstra has launched a suite of messaging services for Next G and BigPond customers that combines email, voicemail, picture messaging, SMS and multimedia communications into what is claimed to be a singe secure, integrated online and mobile service.

The service, MyConnect, has three components integrated between BigPond connected PCs and Next G mobiles:

• MyInbox - an online message, contact and calendar management centre where customers can access email, picture messaging, voicemail and videomail and send SMS, MMS and email.

There is no charge for access to this service - access is available as part of Next G or BigPond services. However all SMS and MMS are charged and traffic volumes are charged for as with any other traffic on the customers services.

• MyEmail - a mobile email service that provides access to up to five existing email accounts, and alerts of incoming mail on compatible Telstra Next G mobile handsets. However mail attachments cannot be viewed on a mobile unless the mailbox is hosted by BigPond. It cost $7 per month.

• MySync – provides automatic daily backup of contacts from compatible Next G mobiles to where they can be accessed from a secure website. It cost $3 per month.
