Dell and Cingular Wireless will work together to deliver Cingular's 3G wireless broadband to Dell's US notebook customers at speeds of 400-700 kbps.
Beginning in the first quarter of next year, Dell will offer notebook computers with integrated High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) wireless broadband capability, offering customer choice in network providers.
Dell says it is responding to customer demand for choice and claims to be the first major personal computer supplier to announce multiple wireless carrier partnerships focusing on integrated mobile broadband capability.
"This is another important step to provide world-class mobile broadband technology to Dell customers," Alex Gruzen, senior vice president, Dell Product Group. "Dell was among the first to realize the promise of high-speed wireless data when it began offering PC modem cards to its customers two years ago. Now the two companies are working together to provide Dell mobile customers with built-in access to the 3G wireless broadband technology deployed broadly worldwide."
"Dell and Cingular, two leaders in their respective industries, are collaborating to re-set the standard in mobile computing with the deployment of 3G wireless broadband services based on a global standard," said Jeff Bradley, vice president, business data services, for Cingular Wireless.
"Dell is the top supplier of business notebooks worldwide while Cingular, the largest wireless provider in the US, is an innovator among wireless carriers in the deployment of built-in wireless wide area network services in portable computers. We look forward to working with Dell to use our collective experience and expertise to deliver a powerful next-generation wireless computing solution to mobile customers."
