The catch is that there's a limit of 25 tracks for free in a 30-day period. If you want more, you'll need a Rhapsody subscription. That costs $US12.99 per month or $US129.99 per year and is only available in the US.
The free Yahoo! Search playback appears to work internationally, and that is a very welcome development.
Let's hope the service stays international and doesn't get cut after a few weeks as happened with Adobe's Media Player, which initially allowed anyone to see the content, but then restricted most of the "good stuff" to the US only.
If users exceed the 25-song limit without subscribing, further attempts to play songs will only deliver 30-second samples until the next 30-day cycle commences.
The FoxyTunes player has play/pause, forward, back and volume controls, and displays cover art and track information.
So, what's in it for the various parties?
Users get an opportunity to listen to music on demand legally and for free.
