Clever Comms promises 48 hour wireless broadband install

Clever Communications (ASX: CVA), which operates a fixed WiMAX network in major capital cities says it can install a service delivering up to 10Mbps symmetrical in 48 hours.

This is in contrast to the several weeks it can take to get terrestrial broadband services installed. Managing Director, Scott Carter, told iTWire that "the only thing that will stop us is not being able to get onto the rooftop - and the percentage of businesses where that happens is in the single digits. We use our own teams with fully equipped vehicles so we are able to control the process end to end."

Clever operates its own MPLS network which interconnects to all major carriers and its focus is on providing end to end managed services for business with service level agreements offering 99. 9 percent uptime guarantees.

Carter said there was a real gap in the market for businesses wanting symmetrical services in the 2-10Mbps range. "DSL pretty much runs out at 2-4Mbps." He added "Our network has the capability for higher speeds but we don't see the demand at present.

Clever presently operates its own wireless networks in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane using class-licensed spectrum and is planning to have a network operating in Perth in the second half of 2008. It also resells Optus and AAPT's DSL services and is planning to offer HSDPA.

Carter said that the company had no interference problems using non-exclusive spectrum but to ensure it was able to meet its SLA commitments used fibre or copper ethernet links for backhaul from its wires base stations, with wireless backhaul used only for backup.

Carter said: "We expect to have HSDPA available in the second half of the year - our focus will be to deliver it as part of a managed network product so they will have security etc." He would not name the supplier but noted that Optus is the largest provider of wholesale HSDPA services.
