He claimed that "Orbcomm has exceptional coverage over areas of Australia that terrestrial networks do not reach...Satellite allows our customers to have telemetry coverage over the whole of Australia and New Zealand with one device, by complementing our existing GSM/GPRS/3G/HSDPA service platforms."

Mach is selling Orbcomm technology through its subsidiary, M2M Connectivity. M2M will supply devices incorporating Orbcomm modems supplied by Orbcomm subsidiary Stellar Satellite Communications and will also supply application development kits for the Stellar products.

Orbcomm operates a network of 29 low earth orbit satellites designed specifically to provide low bandwidth packet data services (2.4kbps uplink and 4.8kbps downlink). Unlike most commercial satellite networks which operate at frequencies of several gigahertz, Orbcomm operates in the VHF band 137-138MHz downlink and 148-150MHz uplink, just slightly above the frequencies used by commercial FM radio broadcasters.

The company installed its first earth station in Australia, at Rutherglen in Victoria just a year ago, enabling it to provide near real-time services for Australian and New Zealand customers.
