Telstra claims to have sold more than 21,000 mobile broadband services on its 1X EV-DO network since its launch late last year, a figure it says is 100 percent ahead of forecasts. Telstra's managing director, convergence solutions and sales, Lynda O'Grady, said that coverage had been extended beyond that at launch with an additional 220 sites, including greater Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong. As part of Telstra's agreement under the Victorian Government TPAMS tender, another 63 sites will be rolled out in Victoria extending coverage in Melbourne, and bringing Bendigo and Seymour online. "By November 2005, Telstra Mobile Broadband will reach 6.3 million people nationally, translating into more than 33 percent of the population," O'Grady said. Telstra claims data speeds for the service of up to 2.4Mbps, in bursts, with typical speeds between 300-600kbps.

Later this month Telstra will launch a consumer service on the network, BigPond Wireless Broadband.
