BigPond goes wireless

Your IT - Home IT

Telstra BigPond will launch a wireless broadband access service under the name BigPond Wireless Broadband" based on Telstra's 1X EV-DO network later this month. A formal launch event is scheduled to be held in Sydney on 25 August. Data services are already available to business customers on the network, via PCMCIA cards, but there are suggestions that BigPond will also launch service with a desktop modem. Also, BigPond seems to be gearing up to confuse the marketplace. It has previously used the term "BigPond Wireless Broadband" for an ADSL service bundled with a WiFi access point to enable wireless Internet access within the customer's home. This has now been renamed "BigPond with home Wi-Fi".
