While the world waits for Google to bring its Google Base search engine out of Beta, an Australian search engine aims to take it on in the local marketplace. Google Base enables users to register products, services and content online together with associated word descriptors called attributes. The Australian search engine, called clickfind works on a similar principle, except unlike Google its model appears to be charge users to upload content.
clickfind, launched late 2007, in essence is a
search engine and business directory, which enables users (businesses)
to upload content (products and services). A certain amount of uploads
(500 items) are free after which users have to pay a monthly fee.
As clickfind puts it: "Google Base Australia is not available as yet!
So, what do you do with your products and services in the meantime,
where do you upload your products and services to while waiting on
Google Base to come to Australia?"
Users can also incorporate features into their listings such as Google Maps and RSS.
The big challenge, however, will be to convince users to upload their
listings and data. At present the clcikfind database seems a bit like a
vacant lot waiting to be built upon.
