Young Google doodler wins MacBook Pro

Your IT - Home IT

A Victorian student is the national winner of the Doodle 4 Google: My Australia competition.

In addition to having her design displayed on the Google Australia home page on Australia Day 2008, Janelle San Juan, a 12 year old student from The School of the Good Shepherd in Victoria, has won a MacBook Pro computer. The school will receive over $A10,000 worth of technology gear.

Google webmaster and original Google doodler Dennis Hwang praised entrants' creativity, and said San Juan's design "was both unique and at the same time instantly recognisable as being Australian. The depiction of the sun, the kangaroo sign in the outback, the bathing box at the beach and the people relaxing in the shade of the tree make this the perfect doodle for Australia Day."

The other three age group winners were Clayton Rowlings (Northern Suburbs Christian School), Madeline Spooner (St John's Grammar), and Angela Jones (Our Lady of the Sacred Heart). They each won an interactive touch screen white board for their school, a trophy, a framed reproduction of their Google Doodle and a goody bag of Google merchandise.

More than 2500 schools registered for the competition, and more than 10,000 entries were received.
