OzHub, the Macquarie Telecom-led cloud computing alliance, has come down firmly on the side of Optus over the copyright controversy surrounding Optus TV Now, warning that any moves to change the law "risk branding Australia a global luddite state."
TelstraClear head of small and medium enterprise, Brenda Stonestreet, said the company has brought its service to market slightly earlier than planned following strong interest from customers and a successful internal trial.
Stonestreet said: "There's considerable interest from businesses who previously enjoyed having mobile from us as part of their total telecommunications package and they want that experience again. In the past we offered the same plans as another mobile provider at much the same price, but now we can deliver something different and continue to develop our service over time."
TelstraClear previously had a resale agreement with Vodafone which gave it no scope to set its own pricing and create its own plans. The new arrangement, announced in August, is a full mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) relationship, but neither side wanted to describe it as such at the time. A Telecom NZ spokeswoman told iTWire at the time that: "it is a commercial resale agreement: it is being run through our corporate retail arm not our wholesale division. They will be a customer of Gen-i.
The service will be marked to SMEs initially and to large enterprise and residential customers early in 2008. The small and medium business offering includes two voice plans and one data plan, with further plans and bundled products planned for the new year. Initial TelstraClear mobile plans are BizMobile Starter, BizMobile Plus and BizMobile Data. BizMobile Plus offers access for $NZ99.95 per month including 400 minutes of calls to any New Zealand landline or mobile, at any time. BizMobile Starter is $NZ30 per month access, with a straight calling rate of $NZ0.40 per minute. BizMobile Data offers three gigabytes of data for $NZ75 per month.
