Blogging reduces stupid decisions, says Microsoft exec

Your IT - Home IT

Blogs provide feedback that "allows us to cut down on the number of stupid decisions we make," Michael Platt, director of web application architecture at Microsoft, told the Bloggers' Lunch at Microsoft's Tech.Ed conference on the Gold Coast today.

According to Platt, Microsoft has between 3500 and 4000 bloggers. It encourages the practice partly as it provides transparency but also because the feedback helps the company understand what its customers really are doing.

Companies should realise that people are coming to expect to be able to interact with companies in ways such as posting comments on their web sites, added business coach Des Welsh.

2400 people are attending Tech.Ed 2007, double the number three years ago. This is the first time the event has sold out two weeks in advance, but for the third year running the most common first name among delegates is David. That might indicate a lot of repeat business or it could be merely a demographic quirk.
