Skype slashes SMS pricing, briefly

Skype is offering half price SMS messages for one week from 4-10 June, repeating and expanding a similar promotion in May.

It says that the earlier promotion produced "a significant spike in SMS message volume sent via Skype." The new promotion applies to messages sent to 15 countries – Australia, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Ireland, the Republic of Korea, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Skype's standard SMS prices vary from country to country and range from about Euro 0.06 to Euro 0.10. The rate for each country can be found at www.skype.com/products/skypesms/rates.
