AMD's new M690 mobile chipset

Your IT - Home IT

AMD announced its M690 mobile chipset today. Like the recently announced 690 desktop chipset, it includes ATI Avivo graphics technology and DVI output. However, the GPU is the slightly less powerful ATI Radeon X1200.

"With AMD's graphics engine expertise and our mobile processor leadership, AMD delivers a cohesive mobile platform for commercial and consumer customers that demand the Windows Vista Premium experience on the go," said Phil Eisler, corporate vice president and general manager, AMD Chipset Division.

The chipset comes in two variants, the M690V and the M690T. The latter adds HDMI support.

M690 is intended for use with Turion 64 X2 dual-core CPUs. According to AMD officials, the power saving features of the M690 and Turion 64 X2 together extend notebook battery life by up to 30 minutes.

Asus, HP and Fujitsu Siemens Computing are among manufacturers planning notebooks based on the M690 and Turion 64 X2.
