gotalk has launched ADSL2+ services by reselling the Optus service, with plans starting at $14.95 per month with 300Mbytes of peak download data and 600Mbytes of off peak.
However this pricing is available only to customers of gotalk's home phone service on a 12 month contract. gotalk charges 10 cents per megabyte of data above the plan limits but after $20 throttles the service to dial-up speeds.
Gotalk CEO, Steve Picton, said that, rather than throttling back as soon as the plan limit had been reached this provided customers with some flexibility and also served to alert them to the fact that they should look at a high volume plan.
gotalk's' other plans are $29.95 per month for 3Gb + 6GB, $49.95 per month for 12Gb + 24Gb and $69.95 for 20Gb + 40GB. Telstra in contrast offers no ADSL2+ plans for less than $59.95 per month (Telstra fixed line phone customers only) and this has only a 600MB download limit. A 12GB service costs $89.95 per month. 25GB and 60GB are $119.95 and $149.95 respectively.
iiNet offers ADSL2+ but not at the maximum possible throughput: all plans are advertised at 3Mbps/1Mbps. And there is no distinction between peak and of peak rates. Prices are $39.95, $49.95, $59.95, $99.95 and $129.95 for 1, 2, 5, 10,20 and 40GB respectively. These prices are available stand-alone, ie the customer does not need to bundle in a phone service.
Optus itself has a number of plans bundled with phone services, all at the maximum ADSL2+ speed achievable. These are $19.95, $29.95, $39.95, $49.95 and $69.95 for 100MB + 200MB, 300 + 600, 2GB + 4GB, 7GB +14GB and 20GB + 40GB respectively.
