Firebox and Thunderbird users on the Windows, Mac and Linux platform have received security updates, at least one of which fixes a critical security flaw, which Mozilla strongly recommends users upgrade to, whether through the update notification service, or by clicking on ‘Check for Updates’ in the help menu.
The security updates fix some of the ‘known vulnerabilities’ that Mozilla lists on their website. It also makes Firefox more compatible with Windows Vista.
CNET reported that Mike Schroepfer, the vice president of engineering at Mozilla saying in a statement that: “This update resolves the location.hostname vulnerability and other security and stability issues. Thanks to the work of our contributors we have been able to address these issues quickly in order to minimize the security risk to Firefox users.”
This update fixes a ‘Firefox cookie flaw’ discovered by a Polish ‘ethical’ hacker.
Mozilla said in a statement on their developer website that “Due to the security fixes, we strongly recommend that all Firefox users upgrade to these latest releases”, an action that we heartily endorse.
