Survey says one-third Net users go wireless

Your IT - Entertainment

A new Pew Internet & American Life Project survey says that more people are going wireless in the US than ever before.

The new survey is freely downloadable from the Pew Internet website and shows how wireless Internet use has increased in the US since previous surveys and as the popularity of wireless technologies has soared and are now widely available.

Pew surveyed 798 Internet users late last year and discovered that 34% have used WiFi or a cell phone to get access, up from 22% in 2004. 72% of those wireless users check their email once a day, whereas only 63% of wired users do likewise.

Wireless users are also more likely to check online news sites, 46% against 38% in the wired world and compared with 31% of all Internet users.

56% of wireless users in the 18 to 49 year category are men, while in the 30 to 64 year category of wired Internet users only 46% are men.

The survey also exposes the insights that 40% of those under 30 are laptop users, along with other stats on cell phone and PDA use available to read through.

Wireless Internet access has rapidly become one of the most popular ways to get connected from almost anywhere, especially when using cell phones or data cards, and it’s popularity can only grow!
