Apple adds new colours to iPod Shuffle range

Your IT - Entertainment

So what can you do if you're Apple and you want to get some media attention on the same day that Microsoft is hogging the airwaves with the Windows Vista launch? Unable to actually launch a new iPod, Apple went for the next-best alternative: adding four new colour options for the iPod Shuffle.

When the latest Shuffle design was launched last October, it was available in a non-wide-ranging choice of silver or, er, silver. The addition of blue, green, orange and pink lets the Shuffle join the ever-shifting colour palette that's already familiar from the iPod and iMac ranges.

According to Apple, the new colour options are available worldwide immediately -- a trick it's not planning to repeat when the much-hyped iPhone launches later this year. On the other hand, it seems a safe bet that a few months after the iPhone does roll out, new colour options will be introduced.

One advantage of that approach is that die-hard enthusiasts might even purchase the device in more than one colour, a fact Apple tacitly acknowledges. "Music fans can now choose iPod shuffle in one of five brilliant colors, or they can buy one of each," Apple VP of product marketing Greg Joswiak noted hopefully.
