Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Here I am all worked up to check out the new Microsoft million selling Gears of War. But I get no more than ten minutes into the high energy, high cussin’ action, when suddenly the dreaded black screen of death. So now we are reviewing the Xbox 360 support framework.
This cannot be happening, not now, not in the midst of the next generation of console gaming, just as it is cranking up. My little noisy white box of fun is no longer reading discs, games or DVD’s without suffering a hissy fit.
It all started with the download of the November Xbox 360 dashboard update, I would get an “unreadable disc” error during Madden 07, followed by an occasional boot up error whilst Need for Speed: Carbon was in the Drive.
The informative black error screen – well I now know how to write ‘contact in Xbox support’ in at least seven different languages – tells me I am having an E66 type error. Checking Xbox support seems to indicate there is a problem with the DVD drive, kind of worked that out.
I am also occasionally getting the more mysterious E65 error, seemingly referred to only by Xbox 360 fan sites, as if it is a code needing the full force of Bletchly Park Staffers to decipher its meaning.
Okay, so going through the motions on the support site, did not resolve the problem, on to the phone. Wonderfully professional and courteous, the support staff run me through the same cable pulling and hard drive removal as per the support site.
Finally it is decided, it is time for my pet Xbox 360 to return home to the technicians that created her. This involves finding a non-descript box, whacking on the address label that is emailed to you. Saying some last words to your beloved, then trusting that soon she shall be returning safe and sound.
I will let you know how we go, but so far from further reading I have done, that November firmware update is looking a little suspicious. Oh by the way, Gears of war is pretty cool.
