Red letter day for new iPod nano

Your IT - Entertainment

A whole series of red coloured and red themed products are on the way to consumers in support of (PRODUCT) RED, an organisation set up by Bono to fight AIDS in Africa, with a range of red or red-themed products designed to catch the eye, to show your support and to raise money for the project. The project has been rumoured for some time, but launched this week on an episode of Oprah with the new red iPod nano only just appearing on the Apple’s US website, along with (PRODUCT) RED's own website to confirm it’s all go. So what other red products will join the new nano?

Well, besides the iPod nano which is a 2nd-gen 4Gb unit (selling for US $199), the www.joinred.com website lists white Converse sneakers with a red interior, a collection of Georgia Armani products including clothing, accessories and a watch with red display, a range of red clothing from GAP, a red American Express card and a red Motorola RAZR, with more red products coming in the following months. None that we know of, as-yet, are available in Australia.

aared_ipod US $10 from each red iPod nano is going to the project, and while an as yet unknown amount of money will come from the other interesting red products, (PRODUCT) RED looks set to be a stellar success and on the receiving end of a steady stream of income to help fight AIDS.

I’m looking forward to seeing what else will become part of the red range, and am kinda curious as to whether someone may try to copy the concept, only with blue products or in another colour.

aaproduct_redmight think it just a fad like those white Make Poverty History and yellow Lance Armstrong ‘Livestrong’ wrist bangles, at least all of the products on offer are much more tangible than a coloured piece of rubber and are far more useful.

One thing’s for sure: anyone still looking for reds under the bed will find they’ll all soon be available on sale in stores doing some good for a change!
