Vodafone to be preferred carrier for 3G Playstation Vita

Your IT - Entertainment

Vodafone Group and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have forged a global agreement that will make Vodafone the preferred provider of 3G connectivity for the Sony PlayStation Vita in multiple countries, including Australia and New Zealand, when it launches in February 2012.

The Vita will come in 3G/Wi-Fi and WiFi only models. The 3G/Wi-Fi version bought from any retail outlet will include a Vodafone SIM that buyers will be able to activate, or replace with one for any other network. They will be incentivised to connect to Vodafone by being offered a voucher to download WipEout 2048 from the PlayStation Store.

Also, Vodafone will be the only telco able to offer the Vita on a contract with 3G connectivity. It will be available for outright purchase from Vodafone in Australia for $449. Vodafone says it will also offer a range of plans, exclusive to the Vita, including a $0 upfront payment option on contract for the PS Vita 3G+Wi-Fi model. Additional details about plans and pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Ross Parker, general manager of devices at Vodafone Australia, said the move marked "an exciting new direction for us as we move into the world of personal mobile gaming."
