Looking for a different way of getting your TV online? McTiVia adds to the choices.
Newly arrived in Australia,
McTiVia is a Wi-Fi and Ethernet device that connects to a TV via HDMI and uses screen sharing technology to display computer-based content - including streaming HD (720p) video - on the big screen.
Up to eight computers running Mac OS X or Windows can be connected to a McTiVia, and it can be controlled from a mouse and keyboard (via a USB port) or wirelessly from an iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
Local distributor Inspire Technology is working with
VPN Secure (VPN-S) to allow Australian McTiVia owners to subscribe to a VPN service to get around the geographical blocks imposed by various TV catch-up sites.
"The foundation of real time entertainment is being built on the Internet, but right now this remains a walled garden in Australia," said Robert Bonanno, Inspire's marketing director. "Thanks to the McTivia and VPN-S combination, Australians need never again wait for local TV stations to play catch-up and then drip-feed us with premium programs mixed in with the mediocre."
"Instead, you will now be able to directly stream the latest episode of Top Gear from the UK, or Modern Family from the US, privately and securely to your lounge room," he added.
