Edifier breathes new life into stylish iPod/iPhone docks

Your IT - Entertainment

Speaker systems for iPhones and iPods have been a hugely popular accessory, and while there are plenty of sub $100 cheapies, the more expensive variety are usually something special, with Edifier's 'Breathe' designed to take your breath away.

Feel like making a statement when it comes to your iPhone or iPod Touch and its accompanying speaker dock?

Then take a look at Edifier's new self-proclaimed and edified masterpiece, 'Breathe', which not only works with iPods and iPhones, but any MP3 player through an auxiliary 3.5mm port, although naturally if you want the 'complete effect' only a true iDevice will do the job.

Breathlessly labelling its creation 'exotic', Breathe has a downward facing subwoofer, which Edifier says 'exemplifies its audio aptitude', while coming with an 'active 5-speaker system' that is 'guaranteed to fill any room with deep, clear, quality sound that listeners will truly appreciate', and thus perfect 'for the home or office environment'.

Naturally, despite the Breathe's seductive orb-like design, you don't want to have to traipse across the room just to do menial things like change the volume, so an 'orb' wireless remote is included for the ultimate convenience that remote controls were designed to deliver, and 'on-deck control pads' on the Breathe itself let you take control manually whenever you want to.

As you'd expect, Edifier have received Apple certification for the Breathe, gaining the 'Made for iPod / iPhone' moniker, and for the price, you'd certainly want it to be so.

A shortlist of the included features are as follows:

- Apple certified 'Made for iPod / iPhone'
- Downward angle subwoofer for enhanced bass performance
- Separate mid-range and tweeter for both stereo channels
- On-deck control pads and wireless 'orb' remote featuring iPod navigation / playback controls
- Full active 5-speaker system
- Digital amplifier with EuP compliant green power management
- Total power output 48 watts

After all that, what's the price - and what does it look like?

Well, quality costs, so breathe in - and don't be surprised at the Breathe's AUD $499.95 price tag. Now breathe out again.

As for the looks which Edifier has spent much edification on? Here 'tis below, what do you think?
