Construction needs cloud flexibility

Australia’s embattled construction sector could benefit from cloud based information systems that can be switched on and off in lockstep with individual projects – with the exception of those organisations based in remote areas like the Kimberleys.

OMG: Rage HD is outRAGEously good!

Your IT - Entertainment

Wow, has John Carmack hit a home run with his RAGE shooter for the iPhone and iPad, boasting truly beautiful graphics and mutants galore ready and waiting for all out war!

When it comes to gaming and Apple's iOS devices and platform, Apple has managed to hit the massive gaming home run that Nokia's N-Gage simply couldn't.

Blending online availability, tens of thousands of gaming titles and super affordable prices that make regular games cartridge and disc prices look outrageously expensive, the iPhone and now iPad has truly taken gaming into the next dimension while beating Nintendo and Sony and their own handheld console games.

While gaming purists still consider full HD consoles from Microsoft and Sony, along with the PC gaming experience as the true ways hard core gaming aficionados get their virtual spills and thrills, John Carmack and iD Software's new 'RAGE' shooter shows just how sophisticated and advanced Apple iGaming can be.

From the makers of Quake and Doom, which John Carmack is of course famous for, RAGE HD isn't the usual first person shooter where you can roam around freely at will and explore your virtual world, looking for alien butt to kick and zombie znot to zplatter.

No, in RAGE you're on what's known as 'rails', where the movement between scenes is done for you automatically, much like those 'Operation Wolf' arcade games from years back - see this 3 min YouTube video for a demo of the game in action on an iPhone 4 and an iPad!

But that doesn't mean you're just watching a movie - naturally there's an arsenal of firepower at your disposal and plenty to discover as you blood splatter your way through the levels, blasting anything that moves, picking up equipment, money and more.

The game itself seems reminiscent in some ways of 'The Running Man', as you're introduced to an episode of Mutant Bash TV, where you're the man with the gun running around and bashing everyone - with bullets.

The bad guys are smart and put up a fight, and because the game is 'on rails' and you don't have that roam-around freedom, the graphics engine is freed up to deliver truly breathtaking graphics for an iPhone 4, iPad or new iPod Touch.
