Activision's Chief Financial Officer Tom Tipple told investors at a recent finance conference, this sales figure tops 2009's Modern Warfare 2 by 16 percent.
5.6 million copies of Black Ops left store shelves after the game was first stacked upon them on Tuesday. Again this tops the 4.7 million sold by Modern Warfare 2 in its first day of shelf life.
"There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year's five-day global sales record of $550 million," Bobby Kotick, chief executive of Activision Blizzard, said in a statement.
