Microsoft launches student film festival

Microsoft is running a film-making competition for Australian university and TAFE students.


Microsoft's SCREENed film festival has invited Australian university and TAFE students to enter short movies based on the theme '7'.

The only requirement is that entries are no longer than seven minutes, and there is a prize (three Xbox 360 consoles, two HP laptops with Windows 7, three copies of Windows 7 Ultimate, and three mobile phones running Windows Phone 7) for the film that makes best use of the theme.

Prizes will be awarded for the best film (a meeting with Patrick Hughes, the writer, producer and editor of Australian thriller Red Hill, plus an exclusive private screening of the movie along with its cast and crew), and for most original screenplay (a masterclass for the cast and crew of the winning film and a group of their friends to join Richard Gray, the writer and director of Summer Coda).

Entries will be judged by Al Clark (producer of Red Hill and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), Richard Gray. freelance editor Gabriel Dowrick, music video producer Cameron D'Arcy, and a Microsoft representative.
