Sony Australia has managed to get a temporary ban against the sale and distribution of the PlayStation 3 hack device the PS Jailbreak dongle.
The
original response from Sony Australia when confronted with the news of a possible hack of the PS3 was somewhat muted.
But as it has become clear, the PS Jailbreak USB dongle does indeed fool a PS3 (Fat or Slim) into believing it is in 'debug mode', Sony has had some warning bells ringing within the walls of the electronic giant.
Allowing PlayStation 3 owners to run 'back-up' copies of games, or produce and run 'homebrew' software is something Sony is not real happy with.
According to Australian
Commonwealth Court documents as well as a
report from the BBC, Sony has managed to get a temporary ban against distributers such as OzModChips in Australia.
The court order also allows Sony to destructively test dongles already on shore in Australia. The aim of this testing will be to find a way around the exploit, work that undoubtedly was already underway in the Sony labs.
Sony has until August 31st (Tuesday) to come up with an argument for a permanent ban of the device.
