Optus spreads the love with week-long ‘Love Lounge’

Your IT - Entertainment

Keen to drum up publicity for its “impressive line-up of mobile devices”, Optus is bringing a “pop-up venue” known as “The Love Lounge” to Sydney for one week, featuring master cooking classes, urban acrobatics, things for fashionistas and an appearance by US pop star Kelly Rowland.

In the hyper-competitive world of the smartphone, and the telecommunications companies that provide the SIM cards that connect those smartphones to voice and data, comes the cool gimmick.

The latest is from Optus, which is blending a type of “road show” for its many and varied smartphones with some cool activities to keep you there long enough to not only enjoy the free entertainment, but perhaps be tempted into learning more about the smartphones on offer, and the Optus network that can power them.

The “week” runs from Monday the 26th of July until Thursday the 29th of July, and the good news is that the event is free of charge and open to all, although Optus does note that “for an outline of how to secure a place at any of the activities”, it wants you to visit its Optus Facebook page.

The Love Lounge, as the destination is being called, will “host a series of sessions throughout the week where a range of leading experts from sport, fashion, music and lifestyle will demonstrate what they love to do and how mobile technology can enable this.”

And, as forewarned about the whole thing really being an advertisement for Optus, the press release tells us that “the pop-up venue will also have mobile device experts on hand to provide visitors information about the advantages and features of select smart phones as well as offering advice about the best applications in the market.”

So, where can you find the love? Well, we’re told that The Love Lounge is going to be located at the Customs House Forecourt, and that sessions for the week include:

Monday 26 July - Chef and author Maria Benardis will be offering delicious Greek treats to hungry crowds. More information about Maria is here.

Tuesday 27 July – A team of Free Running experts will perform urban acrobatics and offer basic skills for the uninitiated. More information about Free Running is available here

The rest of the sessions are on page two, where the article concludes – please read on!
