TransACT taps CombiTel to deliver IPTV

Your IT - Entertainment

PTV systems integrator, CombiTel, says it has provided a turnkey IPTV systems integration to support TransACT's commercial deployment of a hybrid IPTV service.

According to CombiTel, the system includes CombiTel set-top box software that has been developed specifically for TransACT and best-of-breed IPTV system components from unspecified vendor partners.

Last week TransACT announced that it was offering a new set-top box that would support its existing pay TV service and its new IPTV service.

"The initial rollout, started in early 2010, delivers broadcast TV, video on-demand, time shift, digital video recording and other advanced interactive services to TransACT subscribers in Canberra, with further expansion planned into other regions," CombiTel said.

TransACT CEO, Ivan Slavich, said: "This rollout is very significant for TransACT as it arms us with the next generation of IPTV technology, enabling advanced features for our video customer's today, with more features to come in the near future."

Eugene Razbash, CombiTel's managing director said, CombiTel had been selected by TransACT last year to provide the hybrid IPTV delivery platform.

TransACT announced last October that it had signed an agreement to upgrade its standard pay TV platform, TransTV, to deliver some 58 channels via IPTV over its FTTH and VDSL networks in the ACT, from early 2010.

It said: "TransACT's IPTV platform will also provide the capability of next generation premium IPTV features, including personal video recorder (PVR), high definition TV, Video On Demand (VoD) and advanced electronic program guide (EPG) services."
