New games Steam onto the Mac

Your IT - Entertainment

The Mac version of the popular gaming platform Steam is now available for download, along with a selection of games (including one for free).

Valve, the developer of the Steam online gaming service and associated game engine that has been available for the PC since 2004, announced in March that the company would be bringing it to the Mac as well.

The Mac client arrived today and is available for download here. It requires an Intel Mac running Leopard 10.5.8 or Snow Leopard 10.6.3, or later.

The Mac version also supports Steam Play, which enables gamers to buy a game on any platform and play it on all platforms, even pausing gameplay in Windows and resuming play on the Mac (or vice versa).

Along with the release of the Mac client comes the release of a set of Mac-playable games. The company says it will release a new set of Mac-compatible games every Wednesday for the next few weeks.

The price of the new games range from free to US$39.99.
