Part of the new range of 17 Plasma and 14 LCD television models set to hit the market in June will feature what Panasonic has dubbed Viera CAST.
As per competitor's direction, Panasonic likewise see the integration of the living room TV and internet as the way forward. On selected models from both the Plasma line up as well as the new LED LCD TV's Viera CAST will enable socially minded living room couch potatoes to communicate with the push of a remote.
On display at today's launch was the Skype functionality, with one user in Sydney calling up the Skype application and lodging a call with a friend in Melbourne. Said friend was happily watching a movie on their likewise equipped Viera TV when the incoming call logo popped up in the lower right corner.
If the call is accepted, the two can communicate as though seated in front of their home computer. This functionality does require the special Panasonic Skype camera add on.
Whilst not demoed at the event, Viera CAST will also allow TV remote access to Facebook, You Tube and Twitter as well.
