Kindle for Mac arrives

Your IT - Entertainment

It's been promised for some time, but now Amazon has released a Mac version of the Kindle software.

Amazon was smart enough to realise that not everyone interested in e-books would buy a Kindle, so the company released compatible software for Windows, iPhone/iPod touch, and BlackBerry.

The big omission has been Mac OS X, but that hole has been plugged with the arrival of Kindle for Mac.

Like the other implementations, Kindle for Mac supports the purchase, download and display of books from the Kindle store.

Amazon also realises that you might not want to read a book on just one device, so previously purchased books can be downloaded to the Mac at no charge, and the Whispersync technology automatically synchronises bookmarks and the last page read across all devices associated with the account.

"Kindle for Mac is the perfect companion application for customers who own a Kindle or Kindle DX," said Jay Marine, director, Amazon Kindle.

Additional features are planned - see page 2.
