TVS goes digital

Your IT - Entertainment

The first community TV digital simulcasts are on the air.

The long push for community TV stations to receive government funding and spectrum to enable digital transmissions has begun to bear fruit.

TVS, the community TV station for Sydney, has started simulcasting in digital as well as the traditional analogue signal.

Community TV has proved to be an important training ground for on-air and behind the scenes talent.

"TVS leads the way for Community Television in launching its digital simulcast, and I look forward to the commencement of digital services by community television stations in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane in the coming months," said Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

A digital-only community television station is planned for Perth.
