Go ogle the list of winning Street Views the public did choose

Your IT - Entertainment

The list of 'winning destinations' that the Australian public has chosen for Google's special 'Street View Trikes' has been announced following Google's public appeal for suggestions, but while the list of views is in full view for anyone to review, the views themselves will remain clouded until they are first captured, and then published, later this year.

When Google announced its new Street View Trikes a few weeks ago at Taronga Zoo, it immediately showed how much more versatile Google's 'Street View' initiative had become since the first Google cars drove down our streets with fish-eye camera firmly attached.

The view could now change from streets that cars could drive on to streets and pathways intended for people, or trikes, allowing parks, zoos, campuses and other areas off-limits to cars to be included in Google's Street View offering.

To add to the excitement, Google asked the public to nominate places to send the Street View trikes to first, and now the results of that consultation have now been made available.

The first winning destination turns out to be Lord Howe Island off the coast of New South Wales, which 'Aussies have voted'¦ as one of the continent's most amazing off-road attractions which they want the Google Street View Trike to capture for a special Street View imagery collection for Google Maps.'

That was the NSW destination, but from the more than 3000 other destinations nominated, in the categories of 'City Life, Cultural Areas, Natural Wonders and Hidden Gems', what were the other winners in each state and territory?

Here they are:

Parliament House and War Memorial, ACT
Valley of the Giants and Tree Top Walk, WA
Mount Lofty Botanic Garden, SA
Melbourne CBD laneways, VIC
Port Arthur, TAS
Simpsons Gap Bicycle Path, Alice Springs, NT
Hamilton Island QLD

In case you think these destinations are available to view right now, they're not, because first the destinations had to be decided.
