Internet Channel for Wii is free, again!

Nintendo has announced something for free, the Opera browser based Internet Channel will be free from now on, with a bonus offer for those that had purchased the product previously.

It actually works pretty well, with the Wii-mote stepping in as a surrogate mouse the Internet Channel is a convenient way for those not wishing to interrupt gaming sessions to check the stock market and so on.

When it was initially released in December 2006 the Internet Channel was a free download for Wii owners, but as of June 2007 the cost rose to 500 Wii points (US$5.00).

In the spirit of an ever competitive market place Nintendo has announced the cost of the Internet Channel has been reduced to zero, allowing new sofa bound Wii owners to rejoice.

For those that spent their hard earned 500 Wii points between June 2007 and now, Nintendo is ramping up a special offer.  Details are still to come, but from late October until the end of December 2009, those that contributed to the Nintendo Coffers will be able to download a Virtual Console NES title worth 500 Nintendo Points for free.

Nintendo say: “When the exact time period for this offer is finalised, a notification will be sent out to you via the Wii Message Board.”

The Internet Channel has also received an update which includes a newer version of Adobe Flash, which makes even more website content available to you.
