Borderlands gets a post-apocalyptic street date

Your IT - Entertainment

2K Games today informed fans of post-apocalyptic role playing fun the dates of release for the upcoming Borderlands

Developed by the same folks that brought us the acclaimed Brothers in Arms franchise, the Mad Max nature of Borderlands from Gearbox is building anticipation for this new intellectual property to great heights.

Much of the hype comes from the promise of a melding of role-playing and shooter in a framework that allows seamless integration of single player and multiplayer experiences.

Borderlands will allow players to freely join or leave each other’s games at any time for collaborative mayhem or the freedom to choose to play in full single player mode to experience the world on their own. Borderlands will also include a groundbreaking content generation system that adds nearly infinite variety in the amount of weapons that are available to the player. These features, along with addictive nonstop action, will combine to form a breakthrough experience that challenges the conventions of modern shooters and RPGs.

Publisher 2K games say: Borderlands is coming to North American retail stores beginning October 20, 2009 and October 23, 2009 internationally. Coming to PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows-based PC, Borderlands will provide a strong blend of first-person shooter combat with an arresting art style, co-operative gameplay and character progression to deliver an incredibly unique and innovative title this holiday season.

Despite the obvious and immediate comparisons to other games set in desolate future wastelands *cough*Fallout 3*Cough*, Gearbox are promising to differentiate themselves both in art style and hybrid game-play.  Come late October we will all know.
