80GB PS3 run out bundles to make way for Slim

Your IT - Entertainment

Best Buy in the US  is introducing a new bundle featuring PS3 exclusives Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4, all this for the normal retail price of US$399.99.  Start cranking up the rumour mill, for this looks like as close to a price cut as we will see, and smells like a run-out for the current PS3 hardware.

There has been much talk around when Sony might pull the trigger on a price-cut for the PlayStation 3.  The speculation has especially been focused in the US where, despite reasonable sales, the PS3 is seen as foundering against the rival Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii gaming consoles.

Bundling is not a new marketing strategy, but one that has the video game press in the US somewhat excited.   With many sites picking up on a rumoured Best-Buy bundle as the equivalent of Sony breaking their firm stance of no price drop for the PS3.

Bundling the PlayStation exclusives Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 with an 80GB PS3 gives a headline value pricing of US$299 for the PS3 hardware.

Whilst both Killzone 2 and MGS4 are two great titles, sales of the yet to be confirmed bundle may be tempered by consumers believing the associated rumoured new PS3 hardware design destined for a [northern] autumn announcement.

So the question becomes, do you grab a PS3 now, at US399.99, with two high quality hard-core titles bundled in, or take a chance on the expected US$100 price cut and release of the sexy (!?! Image courtesy of Kotuku ) slimed down hardware due before the end of the year?
