Dead Space developer drops EA name

Electronic Arts have rebranded the development studio behind the seriously twisted Dead Space and upcoming Dante’s Inferno

In a move designed to define a development team as producing a different style of game from the overarching brand, Electronic Arts have rebranded the Redwood Shores studio as Visceral Games – sporting a skull-based logo.

Gamesindustrybiz is running the story behind the move. Chatting with Glen Schofield, VP and general manager; "I wanted something that would almost be a mission statement in a name, that would give us more focus, if you will," Schofield said.  "The types of games that we're making these days are pretty intense, action-packed, in many cases mature - although they don't have to be. “

"We're moving in a direction that's less Mickey Mouse and more realistic, intense, fighting-kind of games. Visceral works really well for Dead Space, Dante's and Extraction."

This will give one of EA’s older studios a fresh outlook on development direction, at the same time providing a brand identity in production of a more mature gaming product.

"Let's say EA might have a license, or an idea - they'll look at it and say it's perfect for Visceral Games," Schofield said. "What we want is to define the genre that we make in the name."

Along with Dante’s Inferno and the Dead Space follow up Extraction, Visceral Games is hard at work on two unnamed projects.
