Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
In a not unexpected move, Microsoft has cut the price of the Xbox 360 console in the US. The Xbox 360 Arcade is now a significant US$50 cheaper than the Nintendo Wii.
From September 5th, US consumers will be able to pick up an entry level Xbox 360 Arcade for US$199, putting it US$50 under the best selling Nintendo Wii.
The Arcade come equipped with a HDMI port and 256MB memory card, but no hard drive – though one can be purchased separately.
Microsoft have pointed out that the Xbox 360 is the first current generation to break the magic US$200 barrier, which according to them, should trigger 75 percent of the consoles future sales – as has happened historically in the market.
Optimistic, given the change in the market over the years? Perhaps.
The price cuts are across the range, with the 120GB HDD equipped Xbox 360 Elite dropping US$50 to US$399 and the mid-range Xbox 360 also dropping US$50 to US$299.
It has been a long time coming, but perhaps pressure could now shift onto Nintendo, at least in the US market to consider a price drop for the Nintendo Wii, currently selling for US$249.
Conversely, with Microsoft straddling the console market, Sony with the most expensive game console cum entertainment unit, could also feel price pressure. Though the likely hood of a PS3 price plunge is small, given recent comments in Europe.
Price wars, the new phase of the game console battle before the inevitable focus on the next generation of hardware.
