Gorenje's iFridge cometh

Your IT - Entertainment

The Internet Fridge didn't really catch on, and that had a decidedly bigger screen, making it more suitable for displaying recipes and so on than the iPod/iPhone screen will ever be. So I can't see web access as a big selling point.

Still, it's a handy way of recharging your iPhone while you recharge your body.

But the really interesting part of the announcement only tangentially involves the iPod/iPhone.

Gorenje's iGorenje web site - which is formatted to suit the iPhone and  iPod touch - provides for remote control of Gorenje ovens and washing machines, with more compatible appliances to follow.

So if you want your oven to be hot and ready for the ready meal that's sitting in your iFridge, you'll be able to switch it on via your iPhone as you ride the train home. It's not as obvious why you'd want to activate your washing machine at a distance, but remote control of an air conditioner could be handy, especially if you keep irregular hours.
