A recent interview with Sony Corporation Electronic Entertainment president David Reeves gives the availability dates for PlayTV in Europe and the rest of the world.
Sony are starting to get the PlayStation 3 / PSP combo steamed up. PlayTV, the service that turns the games console into a HD PVR is ready to roll out to the PAL territories.
Speaking with
eurogamer , David Reeves, SCEE president confirmed dates for the European launch; "Yep, it's going to be 10th September that PlayTV comes out," Reeves said.
There is a catch however [tongue in cheek]. Your PS3 needs to have the much maligned 2.41 firmware upgrade installed; "It was very difficult for some of the tech guys but we had to include it in the firmware upgrade, 2.41, but it's done now,"
In Europe the PlayTV service will set you back EUR 99
For the outer reaches of PAL territories, that is Australia and New Zealand, Reeves said; "We've got Australia and New Zealand also lined up for it in January or February, because on their digital terrestrial they haven't actually set the standards yet.”
