Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Australian server announced

Your IT - Entertainment

Electronic Arts have announced the release season for the on again, off again bringing of the popular tabletop world of Warhammer to gamers in Massive Multiplayer Online form.  Brace yourself for Warhammer Online:Age of Reckoning.

Long have little metal figurines battled across the worlds kitchen tables, and long have video game players battled in the world of Warhammer with a smattering of releases, most recently in Warhammer:Mark of Chaos .

And long ago a Massive Multiplayer Online game was announced, set in the much loved and developed Warhammer universe. Since that time the project has been cancelled and restarted a number of times.

Finally we have confirmation from Electronic Arts that Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will ship to retail this [southern] spring.war_he_archmage.jpg

This will be a simultaneous release across Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, North America and Europe.

Best of all for those of us in the southern hemisphere comes the news of a dedicated local server.

"Warhammer is a world-wide franchise with a strong following in Australia and New Zealand. By placing our own server down under and running customer service out of EA Mythic, we can ensure that when we launch WAR, Oceanic players will experience the same quality of game play and customer service as North American players" said Mark Jacobs, VP and General Manager of EA Mythic.

Based on Games Workshop’s epic and longstanding tabletop fantasy war game, WAR features revolutionary Realm vs. Realm (RvR) game play that immerses players in a world of perpetual conflict. WAR is scheduled for launch on the PC in [southern] Spring 2008.war_he_shadowwarrior.jpg

Hopefully there will be a chance to play as one of the Council of Thirteen amongst the rat men Skaven, one can only hope.
