GTA IV slays sales record in UK

Your IT - Entertainment

As expected, Grand Theft Auto IV has eclipsed all other sales records before it.  Sales figures for day one in the UK have been released, who won PS3 or Xbox 360?

Who won?  Developer RockStar games, Publisher Take-Two and the gaming public have been the initial winners in the first wave of GTA IV success.

But in cold hard sales figures GTA IV sold 609,000 units in the UK, beating out the previous title holder GTA: San Andreas which shipped 501,000 units during its 2004 release.

The Xbox 360 share of this booty was 335,000 units, knocking off even Halo 3 which shipped 266,000 units on its opening UK sales day.

274,000 PS3 owners in the UK are now wandering the gritty streets of Liberty City.

According to one report retail stores in the UK are experience a shortage of stock, this may dampen the ultimate success of the title, but either way, as we believed, GTA IV will be a cultural phenomenon .
